Introducing Heather Blalock

director of our new Cherub Choir

for Children 4yo-1st Grade

Music Director Dr. Bryan Black introduces to the parish a new branch of our music program for children, and a new member of our church family to lead it.

Bryan writes:

"It is my great joy to lead the St. James Children's Choir which numbers eleven singers and has spanned ages from second grade to high school. That's quite a span!

Meanwhile, we have a growing number of younger children who are ready to sing and learn but need a different teaching model more driven by aural learning rather than music notation. What to do?

Sometimes the answer (or person) comes to you while riding on a tour bus in the UK. That's what happened to me this summer when I realized that Heather Blalock, whom I have known for twenty years, had the very skills St. James needed.

Even better, this distinguished educator and mother of three has agreed to lead our brand-new Cherub Choir so ages four through first grade can learn in an environment designed just for them.

Heather is eager to meet the St. James family and will be in the Parish Hall for the Ministry Fair on Sunday, August 3."

Meanwhile, you can read about Heather in her own words:

"Heather Blalock is a graduate of Shorter College with a Bachelor of Music Education and Georgia State University with a Master of Music Education. She also holds certifications in Orff Schulwerk and Musikgarten. Heather taught elementary music in both DeKalb County and Cobb County-including 5 years at Hollydale Elementary- before becoming a full time stay at home mom and home study teacher. Married to Stephen, Heather is the mother of three neurodivergent young adults and a caregiver to her adult sister-in-law with developmental delays. In her leisure time she enjoys traveling, hiking, reading and singing with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra Chorus."

Look for Heather at the ministry fair August 3.

First rehearsal for all children will be Wednesday August 13, 6p supper and 6:30 choir
