Wonderful Days Preschool, Inc. was started in 1974 as a way to reach out to area low-income families by providing their four-year-olds with a tuition-free preschool program. The program began as Wonderful Wednesdays and has evolved over the years into its current five days a week, two classroom status.
The program begins at 8:30 a.m., when the children are picked up at their homes by the Wonderful Days bus. Upon arriving at school, they are fed breakfast to get their day off to an optimal start. At the end of the morning, they are fed a nutritious lunch before their day ends at 1:30.
This Outreach program is supported by the parish through the Vestry, ECW, Thrift Shop, Vacation Bible School children, the Choir via "Bad Music for Good Causes," , an annual Road Race and individual donations. The program has also received grants from Episcopal Charities, Subaru, the Daughters of the King and a corporate grant from Lockheed Martin through the AERO Club.
Our goal is to prepare these area four year olds for kindergarten by providing them with a preschool experience they might otherwise be denied. We strive to promote each child's cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and physical growth in a positive, structured environment.
Wonderful Days also uses immersion and a literacy based curriculum to teach English to Hispanic children, thereby preventing a language barrier to their academic achievement. Wonderful Days has many successes, including a high school student who is in the gifted program and intends to become a pediatrician.
